What to Expect at Your Consultation
Do these look different from regular glasses?
They look almost identical to standard prescription glasses for myopia. The technology is embedded within the lens material, maintaining a sleek, aesthetic appearance that kids feel confident wearing.
Can my child wear these all day?
Yes.
These are designed for full-time wear. They provide the same clarity as standard glasses for schoolwork and distance vision, while providing treatment while they are worn.
Are they more expensive than regular glasses?
While the initial investment in specialised myopia glasses is higher than standard lenses, they are an eye health treatment designed to prevent the expensive (and eye health threatening) complications of high myopia later in life. The cost varies based on the Stellest lens selected, frame choice and plan. Health Fund optical benefits cover a portion – Eyes & Vision can direct bill most major insurers.
What are Stellest lenses?
Stellest lenses are spectacle lenses designed to correct your child’s shortsightedness while also helping slow its progression. Stellest 1.0 lenses slow myopia progression by 67% on average compared to single vision lenses when worn 12 hours a day. New generation Stellest 2.0 have been found to halt myopia progression in 55% of wearers.
How do Stellest lenses work?
Stellest lenses use HALT technology (Highly Aspherical Lenslet Target). The technology consists of 1,021 contiguous highly aspherical lenslets spread over 11 rings; the area of the lens without lenslets provides clear distance vision, while the aspherical geometry of the lenslets distributes light across a range in front of the retina making a volume of myopic defocus – a signal that helps slow the eye’s elongation.
Do Stellest lenses really work?
Yes. Clinical data shows Stellest 1.0 slows myopia progression by 67% on average over 2 years. Their new generation goes further: Stellest 2.0 lenses slow eye growth 1.88x more than the first generation, halting myopia progression in 55% of wearers – and this next generation lens is available at Eyes & Vision.
What age is best for Stellest lenses?
Stellest lenses are most effective when started early, with efficacy demonstrated in children as young as 6. Clinical indications cover children who, at initiation of treatment, are aged 6-12 years with spherical equivalent refraction of -0.75 D to -4.50 D and astigmatism up to 1.50D. We can confirm candidacy during a children’s eye exam.
Are Stellest the only special myopia glasses?
No.
Other proven myopia control glasses include MiYosmart, MiYosmart IQ, Zeiss Myocare and MyoPro. Lens choice can be influenced by frame shape and fit, lens thickness and each child’s individual response to treatment. Your optometrist will recommend the best lenses for your child.
Are Stellest lenses different from regular (single vision) lenses?
Yes. Traditional single vision lenses correct distance vision but do not slow myopia progression. Stellest lenses are specially engineered to give clear vision while also slowing down myopia progression.
