Beyond Standard Glasses: Myopia Control Glasses for Children
Standard glasses only hide symptoms. Our specialised lenses, including Stellest 2.0, Miyosmart IQ & MyoCare, use innovative lens defocus technology to manage how the eye grows.
Beyond Standard Glasses: Myopia Control Glasses for Children
Why Standard Prescription Glasses for Myopia Aren't Enough
For decades, prescription glasses for myopia have been used as a “crutch”. They help your child see clearly today, but they do nothing to stop their vision from getting worse over time.
Myopia control glasses are different. They look and feel like regular glasses for shortsighted children, but they are engineered with a treatment purpose: to help signal the eye to slow its physical elongation.
How Myopia Control Glasses Work
At Eyes & Vision, we offer lenses that use advanced optical designs to help manage myopia progression. These lenses are not just for vision correction; they are part of a treatment approach for myopia in children.
Stellest lenses, with FDA approval, use a lenslet design. While the centre of the lens provides clear vision, the surrounding areas influence how light reaches the retina, helping manage eye growth.
These lenses are designed for children during their key growth years and are prescribed as part of an individualised treatment plan
Is My Child a Candidate for Myopia Lenses?
If your child is already comfortable wearing frames but their prescription is increasing, it is time to move beyond standard lenses
Ther Perfect Entry Point
Specially designed myopia glasses provide a familiar, non-invasive way to start the journey toward stable vision
Built for Active Kids
We use high-impact resistant materials that are durable enough for the playground and the classroom.
Addressing the Cause
We focus on the “why” behind the blurry vision, ensuring your child doesn’t just see better, but stays healthier, protecting their vision for the future.
What to Expect at Your Consultation
When you visit Eyes & Vision, we go beyond checking your child’s prescription. We measure how the eye is growing and evaluate whether myopia control glasses are the right fit.
If myopia control glasses are the right fit, your child’s care will include:
- Precision fit: Ensure the “treatment zones” of the lens are perfectly aligned with your child’s pupils.
- Ongoing monitoring: Scheduling follow-up visits to ensure the eye growth is stabilising.
- Lifestyle guidance: Providing tips on outdoor time and digital habits to complement the technology in the lenses.
What to Expect at Your Consultation
Do these look different from regular glasses?
They look almost identical to standard prescription glasses for myopia. The technology is embedded within the lens material, maintaining a sleek, aesthetic appearance that kids feel confident wearing.
Can my child wear these all day?
Yes.
These are designed for full-time wear. They provide the same clarity as standard glasses for schoolwork and distance vision, while providing treatment while they are worn.
Are they more expensive than regular glasses?
While the initial investment in specialised myopia glasses is higher than standard lenses, they are an eye health treatment designed to prevent the expensive (and eye health threatening) complications of high myopia later in life. The cost varies based on the Stellest lens selected, frame choice and plan. Health Fund optical benefits cover a portion – Eyes & Vision can direct bill most major insurers.
What are Stellest lenses?
Stellest lenses are spectacle lenses designed to correct your child’s shortsightedness while also helping slow its progression. Stellest lenses slow myopia progression by 67% on average compared to single vision lenses when worn 12 hours a day.
How do Stellest lenses work?
Stellest lenses use HALT technology (Highly Aspherical Lenslet Target). The technology consists of 1,021 contiguous highly aspherical lenslets spread over 11 rings; the area of the lens without lenslets provides clear distance vision, while the aspherical geometry of the lenslets distributes light across a range in front of the retina making a volume of myopic defocus – a signal that helps slow the eye’s elongation.
Do Stellest lenses really work?
Yes. Clinical data shows the lens slows myopia progression by 67% on average over 2 years. Their new generation goes further: Stellest 2.0 lenses slow eye growth 1.88x more than the first generation, supported by a 2025 randomised, double-blind clinical trial – and this next generation lens is available at Eyes & Vision.
What age is best for Stellest lenses?
Stellest lenses are most effective when started early, with efficacy demonstrated in children as young as 6. Clinical indications cover children who, at initiation of treatment, are aged 6-12 years with spherical equivalent refraction of -0.75 D to -4.50 D and astigmatism up to 1.50D. We can confirm candidacy during a children’s eye exam.
Are Stellest the only special myopia glasses?
No.
Other proven myopia control glasses include MiYosmart, MiYosmart IQ, Zeiss Myocare and MyoPro. Lens choice can be influenced by frame shape and fit, lens thickness and each child’s individual response to treatment. Your optometrist will recommend the best lenses for your child.
Are Stellest lenses different from regular (single vision) lenses?
Yes. Traditional single vision lenses correct distance vision but do not slow myopia progression. Stellest lenses are specially engineered to give clear vision while also slowing down myopia progression.
